Vino Calcaia is a sweet dessert wine produced by the Barberani winery in Orvieto, Italy. It is made from grapes affected by noble rot, a fungus that concentrates the sugars in the grapes and gives the wine its distinctive flavor profile.

The first vintage of Calcaia Muffa Nobile was produced in 1986, but experimentation with this type of wine began in the late 1970s. The grapes for Calcaia are grown on the shores of Lake Corbara, in a microclimate that is ideal for the development of noble rot.

Calcaia is a golden yellow color with an elegant and enveloping bouquet of aromas. It has flavors of ripe fruit, candied fruit, white flowers, acacia honey, and saffron. The wine is unctuous and sweet on the palate, with a long finish.

Calcaia is a great meditation wine, but it can also be paired with foie gras, blue cheese, goat cheese, spicy cheeses, and dried pastries.
